René Descartes was born in The Hague in Touraine on March 31, 1596 and was baptized on April 3, 1596 in the Saint Georges church.
His birth house, a building dating in part from the 16th century, was transformed into a museum in 1974. This simple, clear and welcoming exhibition is entirely devoted to the illustrious father of modern philosophy.
This museum, enlarged in 2005 and transformed thanks to a rich, colorful and welcoming scenography, evokes the life and work of the philosopher, and paints a historical and cultural panorama of the time (Renaissance and 17th century).
